Emil von Behring was a German Physiologist who was born on March 15th, 1854 in Poland. He is one of the fathers of the science of immunology, along with Louis Pasteur and others. In his work in the field of military health, he did early research into septic diseases and antibiotics. He died on the 31st March, 1917 in Germany. Von Behring is most famous for finding a cure for diphtheria. He discovered a serum, made from the blood of animals who had recently recovered from diphtheria, that cancels out antitoxis produced by germs. This serum was injected into the body to reduce the effects of the disease.
